Interfaith Dialogue:
Wings of Unity

11 August 2026

About the Initiative

The Wings of Unity initiative is an annual interfaith encounter held each June at Mariapolis Piero in Juja, Kenya, bringing together Christian and Muslim participants for a shared journey of dialogue, reflection, and unity. It is an initiative of the Focolare Movement and the Risalat International Institute, coordinated by the Centre for Inculturation of the Focolare Movement, in collaboration with Focolare NewHumanity Africa (FONA).

The program offers a living experience of encounter rooted in faith, culture, and a shared commitment to peace.
Wings of Unity is more than a conference; it is a space where relationships are built, perceptions are transformed, and a deeper understanding takes shape. Through open dialogue, shared moments of prayer and reflection, and everyday interaction, participants encounter the richness of diverse traditions while discovering the values they hold in common: respect for human dignity, compassion, justice, and peace.

A Context That Calls for Dialogue

Across Africa, religious diversity is a lived reality. Christians, Muslims, and followers of Traditional Religions often share the same social and cultural spaces. Yet, despite this closeness, opportunities for meaningful engagement are limited, and misunderstandings can easily arise.
Wings of Unity responds to this reality by creating a space where authentic encounters can flourish. It draws on the richness of local cultures and lived experiences, enabling participants to move beyond stereotypes and build genuine friendships grounded in mutual respect.

A Spirituality of Encounter

At the core of the initiative is a way of engaging that values unity, mutual love, and openness to one another. Dialogue is approached not as debate, but as a shared journey, one that invites participants to listen deeply, speak honestly, and recognise the presence of God in every human relationship.

Through this approach, faith becomes a bridge rather than a barrier, fostering connections that lead to trust, healing, and collaboration.
Objectives of the Initiative

  • Promote mutual understanding between Christians and Muslims through sincere and respectful dialogue
  • Create spaces of encounter where participants can share lived experiences of faith and culture
  • Break down stereotypes and misconceptions that hinder peaceful coexistence
  • Foster a culture of unity and collaboration rooted in shared values
  • Empower participants to become ambassadors of peace within their communities
  • Encourage grassroots engagement in interfaith dialogue across diverse contexts
  • Outcomes and Impact
  • Stronger relationships across faiths built on trust and friendship
  • Increased capacity for dialogue among participants in their local contexts
  • Emerging networks of collaboration between Christian and Muslim communities
  • Concrete peace initiatives inspired and led by participants
  • A shift in attitudes, from suspicion and division toward openness and mutual appreciation
  • A growing culture of encounter, where diversity is embraced as a strength

A Path Toward Peaceful Communities

In a context where religious differences can sometimes be exploited to create division, Wings of Unity offers a hopeful alternative. It demonstrates that when people meet with openness and sincerity, diversity becomes a source of enrichment rather than conflict.
Through this annual gathering, the Centre for Inculturation continues its mission of forming individuals who can engage across cultures and faiths with wisdom, sensitivity, and a deep commitment to unity, contributing to a more peaceful, reconciled, and harmonious world.
